Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 21 years old or have completed 2 years of college (48 credit hours).
• Valid teaching license or eligibility for teaching license preferred; substitute training may be required.
• Previous work with children; public school experience preferred.
• Ability to maintain order and respond calmly to emergencies.
• Able to follow oral and written directions and work with staff and students.
• Able to use computer technology to follow lesson plans.
• Flexible and able to work in different classrooms daily.

Responsibilities

• Implements lesson plans and motivates students to learn while organizing groups for instruction; consults with principal or staff as needed.
• Ensures learning is appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
• Implements pupil management procedures and maintains standards and conduct.
• Reports injuries, illnesses, and discipline problems to an administrator promptly.
• Maintains a positive learning environment and safe, respectful climate.
• Complies with building procedures and promotes proper use of school property.
• Works cooperatively with staff and parents.
• Incorporates available technology in instruction.
• Notifies the absent teacher of special situations or problems.
• Maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
• Attends to non-teaching duties when assigned.
