Job description

College of DuPage seeks a full-time, tenure track librarian starting in August 2025. This new position plays a pivotal role in advancing student engagement and serves as liaison to selected academic programs. We are actively seeking innovative, collaborative colleagues who regularly examine their pedagogy and practices in order to foster more equitable, accessible, and inclusive student learning.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This librarian will:

  • Cultivate strong strategic partnerships with academic and student service departments and student groups, working collaboratively to enhance the accessibility and visibility of library services within the campus community
  • Develop and implement strategies that engage new and prospective students with library resources
  • Actively inform the development, refinement, and promotion of library resources and services to align with identified student needs
  • Serve as the liaison to Speech Communication and/or other general education disciplines and student development curricula, collaborating with faculty to develop targeted instructional support, curate relevant collections, and promote student success across the curriculum


Library faculty provide research support, instruction, and reference services; develop and manage collections; promote library resources; oversee aspects of library operations; assist with planning and budgeting; and engage in professional development and other assigned duties.

Faculty duties include classroom instruction, assessment, curriculum development, advising students, professional inquiry, committee work and engaging with instructional technology. Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, on-line, hybrid and/or blended formats during days, evenings and weekends. Faculty positions may not be fully remote.

Full-time faculty librarians are employed on a nine month contract from August to April with the option for additional summer employment compensated separately. The duties, benefits and compensation of full-time faculty librarians are governed by the terms of the College of DuPage Faculty Association (CODFA) Contractual Agreement . Competitive starting salaries are dependent on education and experience.College of DuPage also offers a generous benefits plan.

Qualifications

  • Master of Library and Information Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution required.
  • Experience in library instruction and reference required, collection development preferred.
  • Academic library experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, presentation, project management, and organizational skills required.
  • Demonstrated interest in or experience with first-year student instruction and engagement as well as community college philosophy and values preferred.

About the Library

College of DuPage Library is a team of over 70 faculty, staff and student employees serving the college community over 80 hours per week. The Library is a busy hub of activity near the heart of campus, utilized heavily by students, employees and district residents. In addition to a comprehensive instruction program, reference and consultion services, robust collections, and extensive programming, the Library is the driving force behind COD's OER/Textbook Affordability Initiative (that has saved students over $8M) and plays a critical role in addressing the technology and digital literacy needs of the college community through lending and support.
