POSITION SUMMARY:

The instructor facilitates meaningful learning of the coursecompetencies in the curriculum and proactively supports all facetsof the learning environment. The Instructor provides educationthrough learning-centered instruction that will enable graduates tofulfill the evolving needs of the marketplace. The Instructorencourages a culture of learning that values mutual responsibilityand respect, life-long learning and ethics as well as personal andprofessional development. Incumbent must assure that the SouthUniversity philosophy: quality services to clients; development,growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economicprinciples; and environment which is conducive to innovation,positive thinking and expansion is considered in carrying out theduties and responsibilities of this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provides competency-based education which aligns with the SouthUniversity model of curricula as well as supports the SouthUniversity style of system delivery.
• Designs and delivers class instruction through the developmentof instructional plans to meet course competencies, the developmentof activities which support lesson objectives, and (in the case ofonline instructors ONLY) delivers the instruction as approved.
• Enables the achievement of pre-described exit competencies forstudent achievement and evaluation of learning by providinginstruction which fosters competencies and establish studentperformance criteria and evaluation.
• Delivers learning-centered instruction by establishing aclassroom/online environment conducive to learning and studentinvolvement as well as effectively planning and preparing forclasses and student success.
• Promotes student success by showing flexibility in style andwork schedule as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching andstudents and engaging students in the learning process.
• Manages the learning environment through keeping accuraterecords, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcingschool/campus and online academic and attendance policies.
• Contributes to a learning culture by participating oncurriculum and system task forces, supporting local campus eventssuch as orientation and graduation, and participating in variousother workshops and meetings.
• Relates professional/life/industry experience to learning bythe continuation of professional/technical skills development, theintroduction of industry perspective into courses, and the activeawareness of professional/industry trends and opportunities.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education/License:

• Masters degree required. PhD in a field related to the classesto be taught is preferred.

Experience:

• Zero to two years’ experience in instruction or formalizededucation process, preferably in a post-secondary or collegeinstitution.
• Membership in a professional association tied to area ofinstruction preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including theability to build successful relationships with studentpopulations.
• Outstanding conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrated time management and detail-oriented skills
• Computer based skills (i.e., software, analytical, and reportwriting skills)
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and to meetfrequently occurring deadlines.
• Ability to develop a professional rapport with diverseschool/campus and online constituents.
• Ability to develop and complete projects without continueddirect supervision
• Ability to learn from students’ participation, demonstratesfair and consistent behavior in all matters, and shows compassionwithout being ineffectual
