POSITION SUMMARY:

Instruct and facilitate meaningful learning of the course outcomesin the curriculum and proactively support all facets of thelearning environment. Provide education through learning-centeredinstruction that will enable graduates to fulfill the evolvingneeds of the marketplace. Encourage a culture of learning thatvalues mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning,diversity and ethics as well as personal and professionaldevelopment. Assure that the South University philosophy: qualityservice to students; development, growth, involvement, andrecognition of employees; and environment which is conducive toinnovation, positive thinking and expansion is considered incarrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.Participate in activities that promote the stature of the academicprograms, departments, and colleges and abide by the mandates setby the South University Board of Trustees and administration.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. the educational process to ensure every student is involved ina positive educational experience through the learning, teaching,and social environment.
2. Perform faculty responsibilities as outlined in the faculty jobdescription and in accordance with the provisions of FacultySupplement to the South University Employee Handbook.
3. Provide course instruction that aligns with the SouthUniversity model of curricula as well as supports the SouthUniversity style of system delivery.
4. Design and deliver class instruction through the development ofinstructional plans to meet course outcomes, the development ofactivities which support lesson objectives, and for online courses,deliver the instruction as approved within each course shell.
5. Enable the achievement of pre-described outcomes for studentachievement and evaluation of learning by providing instructionwhich fosters proficiency and establishes student performancecriteria and evaluation.
6. Deliver learning-centered instruction by establishing aclassroom environment conducive to learning and student involvementas well as effectively planning and preparing for classes andstudent success.
7. Promote student success by showing flexibility in style andwork schedule as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching andstudents and engaging students in the learning process.
8. Manage the learning environment through keeping accuraterecords, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcingacademic and attendance policies consistent with the school,campus, or online division.
9. Relate professional/life/industry experience to learning by thecontinuation of professional/technical skills development, theintroduction of industry perspective into courses, and the activeawareness of professional/industry trends and opportunities.
10. Participate in the faculty development process to enhanceknowledge, skills, and abilities in learner-centered instruction.Communicate consistently and effectively with supervisor(s),faculty, and other South University administrators.
11. Contribute to a learning culture by participating on curriculumand system task forces, support local campus events such asorientation and graduation, and participate in various otherworkshops and meetings. (Onground)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• For graduate programs, a terminal degree from a regionallyaccredited institution in the discipline to be taught, with aconcentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduatesemester hours in the teaching discipline) required.
• For undergraduate programs, a master’s degree from a regionallyaccredited institution in the discipline to be taught, with aconcentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduatesemester hours in the discipline) required.
• Experience in instruction or formalized education process,preferably in a post-secondary or college institution. Membershipin a professional association tied to area of instructionpreferred.
• Active, valid, and unencumbered state licensure orcertification as applicable to the discipline.
• At least six months teaching experience at South University oranother post-secondary education institution preferred, with onlineexperience a plus (for online only).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including theability to build successful relationships with studentpopulations.
• Outstanding conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent time management and detail-oriented skills.
• Computer based skills (i.e., software, analytical, and reportwriting skills).
• Experience with computerized learning
• Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills.
• Excellent teaching skills as evidenced in prior teachingevaluations.
