Background

Hanaim Church is a nondenominational, Korean-American church in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. Our congregation consists of 150 adults and 40 children & youth. The church is anchored on the vision of “living the life of an heir of God,” “living together under God,” and “building the Kingdom of God by sharing our lives for the powerless and the weak, while loving one another.”

Hanaim is looking for a next generation English Ministry Pastor, who will transition Hanaim Church to a multi-ethnic community-based church. The full-time pastor will shepherd and lead the English-speaking congregation within the church, which currently consists of between 10 to 15 regular members. This role involves preaching, discipleship, pastoral care, and community outreach, with a focus on fostering spiritual growth and unity within a diverse congregation. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to Reformed theology, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to communicate effectively across cultural lines.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Preaching and Teaching

• Prepare and deliver biblically sound, engaging sermons for the English Ministry services
• Lead and provide training to interested members of the congregation on a regular basis
• Develop a preaching calendar in coordination with the Senior Pastor and other church leaders

Pastoral Care

• Provide pastoral counseling and care to individuals and families within the English-speaking congregation
• Invest in members and families by building personal relationships

Leadership and Administration

• Oversee and support the development of ministry programs for adults within the English Ministry
• Mentor and equip lay leaders and volunteers for effective ministry
• Participate in staff meetings, session meetings, and other leadership gatherings
• Develop and implement a vision for Hanaim’s English Ministry
• Communicate effectively with Senior Pastor and other church leaders about ministry goals, fellowship activities, and serving opportunities

Community Outreach and Engagement

• Develop and implement strategies for outreach to the local community, with a focus on service
• Build relationships with other churches, ministries, and organizations to promote unity and collaboration
• Encourage and facilitate participation in mission trips and service projects

Multicultural Ministry

• Promote and model cultural sensitivity and inclusivity within the congregation
• Work collaboratively with leaders of other language ministries within the church
• Foster an environment where all cultural backgrounds are respected and celebrated

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum one year of experience in youth or adult ministries
• Master of Divinity
• Bilingual in Korean and English preferred
• Planning & organizational skills
• Minimum two-year commitment
