Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College seeks a Full-Time Engineering Faculty member to deliver courses, design curriculum, and support ABET accreditation processes across multiple Indianapolis-area locations.

The ideal candidate will hold a master’s degree in electrical or industrial engineering, be passionate about teaching, and adept at integrating technology into instruction. Strong communication and commitment to diversity are essential.

Salary Range: $49,500 to $55,000

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitate student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with college policy and course objectives.
  • Make optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Supplement and modify, when appropriate, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and instructional materials.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and other required documentation.
  • Engage with students proactively and regularly in meaningful and productive ways that support student learning and contribute to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College.
  • Demonstrate evidence of developing and implementing teaching strategies focused on engaging online students with their learning.
  • Interact with students and colleagues in a professional and collaborative manner, complying with college policies, guidelines, and expectations.
  • Maintain a safe, high quality online educational environment.
  • Promote an inclusive environment that reflects the diversity of our students and employees, ensuring every individual feels respected and valued.
  • Participate in program-level continuous improvement activities, including contributing to ABET accreditation preparation, documentation, assessment processes, and compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Teaches assigned courses as scheduled.
  • Designs curriculum embracing diversity, in all forms, to foster talent in students while modeling inclusive teaching strategies, with an understanding of the socio-cultural issues of traditionally underrepresented groups.
  • Considers individual differences of students in order to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities.
  • Participates in the identification of students with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource.
  • Uses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of such technology.
  • Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Maintains attendance records, determines and submits grades timely, and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout the semester.
  • Distributes and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporates departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements.
  • Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.
  • Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure students' performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
  • Engages in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties and professional development.
  • Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and learner support.
  • Uses technology to assist in communication with students.
  • Encourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Advises potential or current students within the discipline about the program, career, or transfer options available to assist with degree completion.
  • Refers students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.

A master’s degree in electrical, industrial engineering, or a related discipline within the program’s focus. All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution in technology, engineering, or engineering technology. A strong passion for teaching in the field of engineering. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to apply innovative teaching techniques effectively. Familiarity with distance learning tools and a willingness to integrate technology into instruction. Proficiency in collaborative learning techniques and student-centered teaching methods. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and colleagues in a diverse, multi-ethnic, and multi-cultural environment. Flexibility to work a varied schedule, which may include evening and weekend assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A doctoral degree in engineering.
  • At least two (2) years of college teaching experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant industrial experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of current technologies relevant to the area of instruction.
