Job summary

Office of Juvenile Justice seeks an instructor to provide academic instruction to youth in a secure care setting at Acadiana Center for Youth‑Bunkie, LA. The role focuses on delivering core subjects in alignment with standards and building foundational skills for reintegration.

You will develop individualized lesson plans, manage classrooms, assess progress, and collaborate with facility staff to support student success. This is a full-time, state service position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or related field.
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate with ELA content area certification (Grades 6-12).
  • Praxis II content exam for ELA.
  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with at-risk youth in a secure care setting.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction in core academic subjects aligned with standards.
  • Organize environment and instruction; write lesson plans for individuals and groups.
  • Develop and implement individualized lesson plans based on student needs.
  • Maintain classroom discipline and promote a safe, respectful learning environment.
  • Serve as a positive model in grooming, dress and conduct.
  • Assess student progress and maintain accurate academic records.
  • Collaborate with facility staff, counselors, and education coordinators to support student success.
  • Integrate life skills, career readiness, and character education into daily instruction.
  • Participate in professional development and trainings.
