Job summary

The YMCA Alexandria is hiring a full-time Teacher to implement lesson plans and supervise classroom activities for child growth. The role reports to the Early Learning Director and requires creating a safe, engaging learning environment throughout the day.

Responsibilities include delivering developmentally appropriate activities, maintaining daily routines, communicating with parents, and ensuring child safety while supporting educational goals and program standards.

Qualifications

• 15 credit hours (per jurisdictional guideline) or 90 hour certificate or CDA.
• Must obtain CDA within 18 months of employment.
• Must have one year teaching experience in a licensed center.
• Must be at least 20 years of age.
• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Develops and carries out developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
• Maintains safety of children in the program at all times.
• Communicates with parents verbally and in writing throughout the year.
• Attends parent or parent‑child events related to the program.
