Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a dedicated Dockworker to support loading and unloading freight and assist with warehouse operations. The role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and timely deliveries within a fast-paced environment.

The Dockworker will operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual equipment, securing cargo and following DOT guidelines. Strong work ethic and teamwork are essential in maintaining OD's trusted service for customers.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
• Must have working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
• Must have working knowledge of procedures surrounding all aspects of freight transportation.
• Must have knowledge of different loading techniques such as loading tight and cross loading.
• Familiarity with forms used in freight movement (shipping orders, manifests, freight bills, etc.).
• Ability to utilize the dock yard management system for shipment location monitoring.
• Must be available to meet customer pickup and delivery schedules.
• Must operate handheld tablet when needed.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using a motorized forklift, pallet jack or manually in compliance with DOT guidelines.
• Transport self and freight within the service center.
• Read and interpret shipping labels and forms used in freight movement.
• Hand load, rewrap or stack freight as necessary.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps or cords.
• Ensure the quality loading of all trailers.
