Job Purpose

Ensure existing facilities are kept clean, safe, and well maintained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Clean assigned areas, including interior spaces such as hallways, restrooms, offices, classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, and any other areas assigned by the supervisor.
2. Maintain exterior areas such as the perimeter of the school building, parking lot, playground, windows, and other areas as assigned.
3. Empty trash from all receptacles.
4. Dust furniture, window sills, air vents, and other designated areas.
5. Clean and sterilize restroom facilities.
6. Handle bodily messes, including vomit, feces, urine, and blood, following proper training protocols.
7. Remove waste in the cafeteria during breakfast and lunch times.
8. Assist with cleaning cafeteria tables and floors.
9. Sterilize high-use areas to reduce bacteria and harmful agents.
10. Assist the Head Custodian with cleaning projects and tasks.
11. Support the creation and monitoring of preventative maintenance processes to extend the life of facility components.
12. Travel may be required to nearby schools or warehouses/storage facilities.
13. Participate in training programs to enhance skills and proficiency.
14. Review current developments and sources of information related to janitorial responsibilities.
15. Ensure compliance with OSHA and safety procedures.
16. Perform other duties as delegated by the supervisor.
17. Follow all applicable federal and state laws, as well as company policies.

Accountability Procedures

Responsibilities

The Director of Projects & Facilities will assess performance annually in coordination with school administration, maintenance coordinator, and head custodian.

• Carry a hand-held radio at all times while on school property if assigned.
• Remain on school property during working hours, including lunch.
• Report and assist with emergency situations as needed.
• Custodians are not permitted to leave campus without permission from their Facilities Supervisor.

Job Requirements

• Education: Minimum high school diploma; continuing education in construction or facilities-related fields is preferred.
• Experience: At least 1 year of janitorial trade experience.
• Special Qualifications: Possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
