Jonathan Alder High School seeks a Building Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students and staff. The role operates from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, with a 12-month contract and paid benefits including health, dental, vision, and life insurance.

The successful candidate will perform routine cleaning, minor repairs, and daily housekeeping while coordinating with school leadership to ensure a secure facility.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions; Basic Math and Writing skills, email and computer skills.
• Ability to give instructions and lead others.
• Physically demanding job including lifting, crouching, reaching, etc.
• REPORTS TO: Building Principal; Maintenance Supervisor oversees repairs and schedule.

Responsibilities

• Cleans and maintains assigned building spaces and helps in other spaces as needed.
• Makes minor repairs; reports major repairs to supervisor.
• Cleans floors, woodwork, restrooms to ensure sanitary conditions.
• Maintains cleanliness of windows, walls, and surfaces; moves furniture as needed.
• Receives deliveries and performs setup for assemblies or events.
• Keeps sidewalks/entrances clear of snow; supports safety and energy policies.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Physically demanding job including but not limited to such tasks as walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, crouching, crawling, lifting, reaching, using hands to operate and use objects, tools and controls and to reach with hands and arms

REPORTS TO: Building Principal in day to day operations and human relations.

Maintenance Supervisor in repair, maintenance and cleaning procedures; Approval of sick leave/vacation/personal, etc.

Immediate supervisor is the building principal. When school is closed and the principal isn't on duty, the Custodial Supervisor becomes the immediate supervisor.

POSITION GOAL: To provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children and staff at the building level. Maintains the housekeeping, building security, and preventive maintenance program for the building.

Maintain the building (or building space) in a clean, attractive, healthy and safe condition.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) Month contract

Eight (8) hours per day with 30 minute unpaid lunch

EVALUATION: One co-operative review by the Building Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor.

4. RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 4.01 Cleans and maintains assigned building space and assists in other spaces when needed
• 4.02 Makes minor repairs and reports the need for other repairs to the maintenance supervisor
• 4.03 Properly cleans all floor surfaces i.e. sweeps, scrubs, mops and buffs floors
• 4.04 Dusts equipment and woodwork or other inside finishes and trim
• 4.05 Keeps assigned restrooms thoroughly clean and sanitary
• 4.06 Replenishes supplies in a timely manner
• 4.07 Empties and cleans waste receptacles
• 4.08 Washes windows and walls
• 4.09 Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment
• 4.10 Maintains equipment and materials used in the work
• 4.11 Disposes of all trash in a manner established for the building
• 4.12 Responsible to receive deliveries to the building
• 4.13 Checks operation of freezers and refrigerators during vacation periods
• 4.14 In emergencies perform tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor
• 4.15 Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the principal or supervisor
• 4.16 Keeps front sidewalk and walkway clear of snow
• 4.17 Monitors and assumes responsibility for energy-saving policies of the buildings and district
• 4.18 Cleans up spills and "accidents" (e.g. product of illness)
• 4.19 Replaces light bulbs, starters, fuses and tubes
• 4.20 Checks exit lamps on a daily basis, replaces bulbs & batteries when necessary
• 4.22 Operates heating equipment
• 4.23 Monitors and assumes responsibility for energy-saving policies of the building and district
• 4.24 Cleans range hood filters every two weeks to four weeks
• 4.25 Unloads deliveries and distributes packages
• 4.26 Responsible to clean and set up for school assemblies, programs, etc.
• 4.27 Completes all summer work in a timely fashion.
• 4.28 Disinfects areas periodically or as directed
