Job summary

Franklin Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio is seeking a permanent full-time Corrections Officer to maintain security and safety of the facility and inmates. You will monitor security systems, supervise inmate activities, and respond to incidents while upholding policy and procedures.

The role offers a starting pay of $24.88 per hour with progression to $25.61 after six months, plus an extra $0.60 per hour for 2nd or 3rd shifts, and a tobacco-free workplace.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; valid driver's license.
• Pass correction officer assessment or have completed within past 24 months.
• Probationary period is 365 days.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control of the institution to provide for safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and general public by enforcing rules/regulations/policies and procedures.
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility/institution.
• Assure assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
• Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and the transportation of inmates.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
• Complete required reports and serve on committees.
• Prevent escapes or incidents which threaten security.
• When necessary, use physical force, unarmed self-defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates.
• Newly hired Correction Officer will be hired at step 1 $24.88 and will move to step 2 $25.61 after 6 months employment.
• Earn an additional .60 per hour working 2nd or 3rd shift.
