Job Summary
Join our talented team at Onyx Care of Bernice, a post-acute rehabilitation facility committed to providing exceptional patient care. As a Dietary Cook, you will play a vital role in ensuring the nutritional needs of our patients are met, while maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.
Residents Rights
- Knows and respects patientrights.
- Ensures all protected health information is keptconfidential.
- Reports all complaints made by patients tosupervisor.
- Reports all allegations of resident abuse, neglect and/or misappropriation of patientproperty.
Safety and Sanitation
- Uses Standard Precautions as outlined in policies and procedures.
- Follows established safety policies andprocedures.
- Observes safety needs of patients as indicated in careplan.
- Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies when indicated and properly trained touse.
- Demonstrates job-specific knowledge of fire and disaster preparedness during drills or actualsituations.
- Operates, cleans and stores kitchen equipment in a safe manner.
- Identifies location of MSDS for chemicals used.Is familiar with eye wash station.
Food Preparation/Production Responsibilities
- Assists cook as directed by the food service director.
- Prepares and labels nourishments according to center procedures.
- Prepares and portions desserts, salads and other non‑entrée foods into dishes; pours beverages.
- Follows production sheets and pre-preparation sheets or guidelines when appropriate.
Sanitation Responsibilities
- Sweeps and mops kitchen floors as assigned.
- Takes trash to dumpster.
- Washes dishes and silverware according to dishwashing procedure.
- Puts clean dishes and silverware away.
- Maintains clean, neat, and orderly work areas.
- Assists with cleaning of equipment, dishes, silverware and kitchen as assigned.
- Washes pots and pans if assigned.
- Completes cleaning assignments.
Meal Service Responsibilities
- Sets dining room tables for meals when assigned.
- Works on meal tray serving line.Sets-up before start of meal service.Breaks down area and cleans-up at end of serving line.
- Reads and follows tray tickets when serving meals.
- Serves meal trays to patient and pours beverages for patients when assigned to dining room.
- Clears tables of dishes and trash.
- Pushes food carts to appropriate patient care areas.
- Communicates with patients during meal times when serving in dining areas.
Food Safety Responsibilities
- Uses safe food handling techniques as identified in state and federal codes and regulations.
- Uses proper hand washing techniques.
- Thaws food appropriately.
- Stores food using correct packaging and labelling.
- Uses gloves appropriately and changes when required.
- Checks refrigerators and freezers for correct temperature.
- Follows the cleaning schedule.
- Cleans the equipment and work areas after each use.
- Cools, stores and reheats cooked foods according to procedures.
- Does cleaning assignments.
- Maintains neat, clean and orderly work areas.
Experience
- A high school diploma is typically required; culinary certification or relevant training is an asset.
- Minium of 2 years’ experience in culinary role, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting
- Proficiency in food preparation, cooking techniques, and know
Physical Demands
- Lifting50poundsmaximumwithfrequentlifting,moving,and/orcarryingofobjectsweighingupto25pounds.Stooping, standing, walking, smelling, color, vision, reaching, handling, fingering and pushing.
