Qualifications

• Hold a high school diploma or recognized equivalent.
• Have completed 60 semester hours of college credit from regionally accredited institutions.
• Hold an associate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
• Have achieved a passing score on the ParaPro test.
• Have achieved a passing score on the RID written exam.
• Attained a rating of Level 3.5 or above on the EIPA.
• Maintained a valid RID certification.
• Maintained IL BEI Basic Certification or higher issued by IL Deaf and Hard of Hearing Commission.

Responsibilities

• Translates the spoken word into sign language.
• Maintains effective listening and communication with staff and students.
• Follows district policies and classroom procedures.
• Assists teachers in reinforcing material and instructions.
• Supports students and staff during instructional time.
• Upholds confidentiality and ethical standards for student information.
• Delivers materials and supervises classroom activities.
• Provides direct student support and substitutes for regular teachers when needed.
