Scheels in West Des Moines, IA is hiring a friendly Cashier to greet customers, ring up purchases accurately, and deliver a world-class checkout experience.

You will engage with shoppers, promote the Scheels Visa and digital receipts, balance the cash drawer, and keep the checkout area clean and ready for the next customer. The role supports our ESOP ownership culture and benefits program.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1-3 months of cashiering experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers with a smile when entering and exiting the store.
  • Enhance the customer experience by engaging in conversation while providing personalized service and promoting the digital receipts program.
  • Accurately scan every item, ensure proper rung and payment before customer exits the store.
  • Bag purchases carefully and efficiently.
  • Promote the Scheels Visa card and explain benefits.
  • Ask every customer to sign up for digital receipts.
  • End each transaction with a thank you to every customer.
  • Balance the cash drawer and perform basic math and change.
  • Operate the computerized register system and follow cash handling policies.
  • Maintain awareness of in-store events and promotions.
  • Keep the checkout area stocked and clean.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately scan every item customers are purchasing, ensuring all merchandise is properly rung through and paid for before the customer leaves the store
  • Treat merchandise with care, and bag purchases carefully and efficiently
  • Promote the Scheels Visa card and clearly explain all benefits
  • Ask every customer to sign up for digital receipts
  • End each transaction by saying “thank you” to every customer
  • Perform basic math, calculate discounts, make change, and accurately balance the cash drawer
  • Operate the computerized register system and follow all cash handling policies
  • Maintain an awareness of in‑store events and promotions
  • Keep the checkout area stocked and clean
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 1-3 months of cashiering experience preferred
Physical Requirements/Lifting Requirements

Must be able to sit, stand, bend at the waist, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push/pull, lift, talk, and hear with or without reasonable accommodation.

Medium work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects

Scheels cares about the health and safety of our Associates. Associates are expected to follow all safety procedures and perform their job duties in a fashion that minimizes the risk of injury.

Schedule

Must be available to work assigned schedule, typically Monday through Friday 8:30am-5:00pm, with occasional weekends. Schedule may include varied hours, evenings, and holidays as needed. Average hours/week are 41 hours/week.

Salary Range

$17/ Hour
