Job summary

Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro, Alabama, is seeking a cashier to provide a warm, efficient checkout experience and to represent our omni-channel brand with a friendly, professional presence.

You will process purchases, apply discounts, handle cash and credit transactions, and maintain a neat cash wrap, shelves, and carts while engaging guests on the shop floor. Saturdays are mandatory and schedules may extend early mornings to evenings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Basic math skills and cash handling experience preferred.
• Friendly, professional demeanor with strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet each guest warmly; engage guests in pleasant conversation.
• Process zip code and email information with each transaction.
• Quickly and accurately process guest purchases.
• Be familiar with items that are discounted and properly apply the discount to each transaction.
• Accurately follow cash register daily opening procedures and nightly closing procedures.
• Close credit card machine as part of register closing procedures.
• Keep registers stocked with supplies such as register tape, credit card tape, bags, staplers, staples, etc.
• Maintain a clean, neat cash wrap area.
• Maintain shopping carts and baskets in designated areas.
• Re-stock all returned merchandise.
• If there are no guests waiting to check out, find a guest on the retail floor to help and interact with; work to keep sales floor neat.
• Light stocking of adjacent apparel spaces.
• Report suspicious activity or shoplifting to Assistant Manager, Manager, or Asset Protection Manager; this includes stopping a guest as they exit the store if the security towers sound an alarm.
• Be accountable for completion of daily task list for department.
• All other tasks assigned by management.

Primary Function

The checkout process represents the last interaction a guest has with our store and our brand before they head home. Cashiers play a crucial role in ensuring the last experience our guest has with us is excellent. This position requires a smile, and a positive, friendly presence, as well as professionalism, a quick and accurate pace in checking out and bagging guest purchases.

Work Schedule

• Hours: Position requires team member to be at work as early as 7:00 A.M. and as late as 8:00 P.M. on Saturdays.
• Flexibility in scheduling is required.
• Saturdays are mandatory.

Required Workdays

• Friday before Memorial Day.
• Business day before July 4th.
• Friday before Labor Day.
• All major holidays (excluding Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day).
• Wednesday and Friday of Thanksgiving Week.
• Friday before Ski Sale.
• Saturday before Thanksgiving.
• Annual Winter & Ski Event (1st Saturday in November).
• One holiday per year is required on the Retail Sales Floor.
