UCLA Faculty Position for Pediatric Physiatrist
The Department of Neurosurgery in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA seeks a pediatric physiatrist to join our comprehensive, multidisciplinary, academic team. Incumbent must exhibit excellent clinical skills, strong organizational and team skills, and a desire to teach to be considered for a faculty position.
The incumbent will evaluate and treat a wide range of physical rehabilitation conditions in children and adults, including outpatient and inpatient management of cerebral palsy, spine disorders and spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke, neuromuscular disease, prosthetics/orthotics, and wheelchair/seating needs. We a looking for a physiatrist to join an interdisciplinary team consisting of pediatric neurosurgeons, pediatric orthopedic surgeons, spine surgeons, pediatric neurologists, pediatric urologists, nurse practitioners, and physical therapists. The specialist will have access to the Kameron Gait and Motion Analysis Laboratory, and may serve as a consultant for the BrainSPORT/concussion clinic. Physiatrist will hold clinics in Santa Monica and Westwood and will be involved in quality improvement initiatives.
Candidates must have a M.D. degree or equivalent, and eligibility for California medical licensure. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible and have completed ACGME-accredited residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as fellowship training in Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The candidate must possess an outstanding record of clinical excellence, academic productivity, and a demonstrated commitment to education. The rank and salary shall be commensurate with prior experience.
The successful candidate should be familiar with examining and supporting the rehabilitation needs of chronic neurologic diseases in children and through the spectrum of life for continuity. This entails initial and follow-up assessments of motor function and functional needs, including functional evaluations, wheelchair and orthotics prescriptions and modifications, management of spastic and dystonic conditions, and evaluation and treatment of pain associated with these diseases.
