Job summary

Draper in Cambridge, MA seeks a student co-op to help build out bioinformatics capabilities within a broad data ecosystem. You will contribute to projects spanning bioinformatics, data science, software engineering, machine learning, and AI, designing, testing, and documenting engineering solutions for real-world applications.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

  • Design, develop, and enhance engineering solutions for challenging problems.
  • Implement, test, perform analysis, and provide documentation support.
  • Generate and present test reports including plots, tables, evaluation criteria, and conclusions from data collected and analyzed throughout the test process.
  • Complete assignments designed to develop a practical knowledge of processes, procedures, equipment, facilities, and systems as well as their interrelationships within engineering disciplines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description Summary

For more information about Draper, visit www.draper.com. The student will work on cutting-edge efforts for US Government customers and/or internal projects. The machine intelligence team this student will join of works on exciting and diverse projects in a wide range of fields including bioinformatics, data-intelligence, medicine, genomics, text, and other signals. We develop tools spanning bioinformatics, data science, software engineering, machine learning, and generative artificial intelligence domains. Our projects range from basic research to deployed systems, for commercial customers to government entities working on the most pressing national security problems of our time. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, excited to learn, and has an important role on the team. This student will specifically help build out our bioinformatics capabilities, a shared data ecosystem for biological data.

Duties and Responsibilities

Design, develop, and enhancement engineering solutions for challenging problems.

Implement, test, perform analysis, and provide documentation support.

Generate and present test reports including plots, tables, evaluation criteria, and conclusions from data collected and analyzed throughout the test process.

Complete assignments designed to develop a practical knowledge of processes, procedures, equipment, facilities, and systems as well as their interrelationships within engineering disciplines.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Program Requirements

Enrolled in an accredited full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program required. There is flexibility regarding hours and program duration based on applicant’s school schedule and availability.

Skills and Abilities

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent work ethic with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Ability to adapt to ever-changing environments, risks, and vulnerabilities.

Strong computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Additional Job Description

Co-op student to start in January 2027.

  • Classes and projects building web applications: databases, RESTful server applications, frontend frameworks (React, Angular, etc), wireframe designs
  • Some biology knowledge or experience is a plus
  • Working towards a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Creative individual, team player, self-starter
  • Scientific thinking, the ability to deconstruct complex systems, and build innovative solutions
  • Solid programming experience (preferably JavaScript)
  • Experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Good written and spoken communication skills

Salary

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $20.00 - $45.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Union ranges will be in compliance with the collective bargaining agreement's approved rates by location and role.
