Job summary

AutoComplete is bringing AI to the point of sale for car insurance. As an early AI Software Engineer in San Francisco, you will join 50+ staff and work with the founders to shape product from inception.

You’ll design end-to-end systems, build AI-native workflows, and push the boundaries of user experience and data-driven decision making. You’ll collaborate with the CTO, Directors of Product, and engineers to deliver scalable backend/data integrations, while leveraging your CS fundamentals and

Qualifications

• 3-6 years of professional engineering experience.
• AI-native mindset: able to use AI tools to write, review, test, and document code.
• Proficient with Python, React and Typescript.
• Strong CS fundamentals across algorithms, data structures, and systems design.
• Bonus for higher degrees in CS (BS/MS/PhD) or equivalent.
• Bonus for experience in seed-stage, high-growth startups.
• Bonus for experience with LLMs, AI APIs, embeddings, retrieval, or agentic workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own business problems end to end; clarify requirements, design and architect systems, build, ship, measure and iterate.
• Build AI-native workflows for customers, agents, and operators (chatbot, voice agent, QA, BI, quote orchestration, copilots).
• Collaborate with CTO, Directors of Product, and Engineering Managers.
• Develop a frictionless consumer UX for getting a car insurance quote.
• Improve conversion funnel via data infrastructure and reporting.
• Contribute to core backend architecture with data flows from dealer software integrations and external providers.
• Coordinate with LatAm-based engineering team.

Our three founders have successfully built VC-backed companies with exits to Allstate, Groupon and Ford. We are backed by Bain Capital Ventures, CarMax and AutoNation and partnered with 60 of the top 150 dealer groups.

As our first AI Software Engineer in San Francisco, you’ll work closely with our 3 co-founders (CEO, CTO, COO) and 3 Directors of Product. Our product leaders have 40+ years building world-class companies spanning technology and insurance like Apple and Allstate.

We're working on tough, technical challenges to change the way consumers buy insurance. Expect to tackle a healthy mix of modern, best-in-class user experience as well as back-end data workflows and integrations. This role is a unique opportunity to join as one of the first 50 employees of a rapidly scaling startup.

Responsibilities

• Own business problems end to end; clarify requirements with stakeholders, design and architect the system; build, ship, measure and iterate on the solution.
• Build AI-native workflows that assist customers, agents, and operators through initiatives such as our chatbot, voice agent, automated QA, business intelligence, quote orchestration and internal copilots.
• Work directly with our CTO, Directors of Product and Engineering Managers
• Develop and design a frictionless consumer UX for getting a car insurance quote
• Optimize the conversion funnel through better data infrastructure and reporting
• Contribute to our core backend architecture with data flows powered by dealer software integrations, 3rd-party data providers, insurance carriers and internal systems like our CRM
• Collaborate and coordinate with our LatAm-based engineering team of 10 senior software engineers

Qualifications

• 3-6 years of professional engineering experience
• AI-native engineering mindset: actively uses tools like Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or GitHub Copilot to write, review, test, debug, and document code
• Experienced with our stack: Python, React and Typescript
• Strong knowledge of CS fundamental concepts
• Bonus for B.S., M.S. or PhD. in Computer Science or equivalent
