Job summary

ByteDance's Edge Traffic Scheduling team in Seattle is seeking experienced engineers to design and build a traffic management system that spans across PoPs and providers, enabling performance- and cost-aware routing for global users.

You will analyze routing performance, troubleshoot issues, and support internal and external services on public Internet topology, with exposure to DNS, HTTP/QUIC and modern networking tools.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or bachelor’s with 3+ years in relevant fields.
• Experience with DNS service and networking protocols.
• Knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS/QUIC, BGP, IPv4/IPv6.

Responsibilities

About the Team:Edge Traffic Scheduling team is seeking experienced developers for our edge network and maintain its stability as well as drive the functionality and capability of our infrastructure to the next level. Our team builds cross sites (also cross uplink providers) traffic management system based on DNS, to manage TikTok's self-built CDN PoPs, supporting user performance optimization and resource load balancing. Edge Traffic Scheduling team operates hundreds of PoPs and their networking and traffic around the world to run edge workloads (e.g. CDN cache, live streaming, gaming, real-time communication, etc.). The cross PoP traffic scheduling system is one of the core parts of the platform, as it has a direct impact on user experience. We are looking for passionate engineers to join and work together to build a traffic management system that provides one-stop solutions for edge services running on our edge platform.

Responsibilities

• Design and build a control system that directs traffic following performance-based or cost-based routing strategies

• ByteDance internal and external services support on public internet topology and connectivity

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree (or bachelor’s degree with 3+) years of experience in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related quantitative fields
• Experience with DNS service
• Knowledge of networking protocols such as BGP, IP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP, UDP
• Experience with networking tools, including ping, mtr, traceroute
• Experience with networking metrics, including SNMP, sflow / netflow
• Experience with IPDB
• Knowledge of HTTP, HTTPS, QUIC

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in one or more programming languages such as Go, or scripting experience in Shell and Python
• Experience with Kubernetes
• Knowledge of internet OSI model
• Experience with AI Agent
