Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a self-starter engineer to build internal tooling for the Safety Systems teams. You will develop full-stack tooling that improves safety and reliability of OpenAI’s models, focusing on areas like mental health protections.

You will own end-to-end development of internal tools, collaborate with researchers and policy writers, and translate complex workflows into durable product solutions that scale with the team's needs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of engineering experience at tech/product-driven companies.
• Proficient with JavaScript, React, and other web technologies.
• Proficient with at least one backend language (Python).
• Experience with relational databases such as Postgres/MySQL.
• Interest in AI/ML and collaboration with researchers/policy writers.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end development of internal tools that improve model safety.
• Partner with Safety Systems researchers, engineers, and policy creators.
• Build full-stack experiences to support model policy workflows and data review.
• Optimize apps for usability, speed, and scale to increase velocity.
• Transform AI-assisted safety workflows into external facing safety products.
