Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a seasoned software engineer for the Intelligence & Investigations Engineering team in San Francisco. You will build systems that surface actionable signals and support investigators with fast, scalable tools.

You will prototyp e, ship, and maintain end-to-end production solutions that leverage OpenAI models, while collaborating with analysts and cross-functional partners to evolve capabilities and address high-stakes risk scenarios.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, building, and operating production software for intelligence, investigations, or security workflows.
• Own products or systems end to end for high-stakes problems.
• Strong programming and data skills, including Python, SQL, and large or unstructured datasets.
• Sound product and technical judgment; partner with expert users across functions.
• Excitement about using capable AI systems to expand human situational awareness.

Responsibilities

• Build intelligence systems that monitor and characterize emerging risks and provide leadership with timely, decision-ready views.
• Develop investigative tools to help analysts assess potential high-severity harm with speed and depth.
• Own technical solutions end to end from user needs to deployment and maintenance of production systems.
• Apply OpenAI models to research and investigative workflows across large datasets.
• Design interfaces and workflows that help expert users explore evidence and follow leads.
• Shape the team’s technical and product direction as needs evolve.
• Collaborate with analysts, investigators, and partners across Applied, Safety Systems, Research, User Operations, and Strategy.
