Job summary

Midnight Mansion is looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer to design and implement engaging front-end systems for their immersive venue, Edge of Elsewhere. The ideal candidate will have over 3 years of experience and a passion for location-based entertainment.

The position offers a salary range of $70,000 - $120,000 depending on experience, along with flexible work hours and a retirement savings plan. Applicants should be able to commute to their Needham, MA studio and be authorized to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in software development.
• Ability to commute to studio in Needham, MA and occasionally Somerville, MA.
• Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

• Designing and implementing user-friendly front-end systems.
• Assisting with prototyping and testing puzzles, props, and interactions.

Midnight Mansion’s mission is to bring more delight into the world. We design, engineer, fabricate, and install immersive, in-person experiences - building anything from special exhibits to interactive pieces that blend creative technology, mechanical systems, lighting and sound, and special effects. From early prototypes to final install, we manage the full build and bring ambitious ideas into the real world.

About the Role

We're hoping to find someone who has experience with immersive, in-person experiences, or at least is passionate about them. The role involves writing and designing software for our flagship in-person venue called Edge of Elsewhere. The role is full-time and in-person.

Responsibilities

• Designing & implementing user-friendly front‑end systems
• Assisting with prototyping & testing puzzles, props, and interactions with members of the public

Qualifications

Must Haves

• Ability to commute to our studio in Needham, MA and periodically Somerville, MA
• 3+ years of experience
• TypeScript / Node.js React experience along with HTML / CSS
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; we are unable to sponsor applicants for work visas at this time
• Enthusiasm for location‑based entertainment :)

• Microcontroller / Single Board Computer experience (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Odroid)
• CouchDB
• Graphic Design Experience / Adobe Illustrator / Figma
