Job description

Hiring: Cook (Dinner/Line/Prep/Cold Side Cooks Especially Sought)

Nonna’s Kitchen in downtown Spearfish, South Dakota is looking for a talented, passionate, and creative cook, especially dinner cook, to help us take our highly acclaimed Italian restaurant to the next level. Nonna’s working vision is to be the premier Italian restaurant and cocktail lounge in the Black Hills, focused on offering an unrivaled guest experience revolving around exquisite, home-made dishes and a superior libation selection served by a welcoming, professional staff in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Leading food preparation and cooking, ensuring superior preparation and presentation using only the highest quality ingredients.
  2. Helping to maintain a fully-stocked kitchen inventory.
  3. Ensuring compliance with all appropriate safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards.

Secondary responsibilities include:

  1. Developing Italian-themed dishes to complement the regular and seasonal menus.
  2. Advising on menu pricing in collaboration with the restaurant manager/owner.
  3. Engaging in customer relations.
  4. Building and nurturing professional contacts with vendors and the culinary community.

Skill sets being sought:

  1. A proven and superior track record as a cook/chef.
  2. Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods.
  3. Ability to work efficiently and quickly.
  4. Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with other staff members.
  5. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  6. Physical endurance to stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects.
  7. Willingness to learn new recipes and techniques and adapt to changes in the menu.
  8. A creative, sensitive, and inspiring palate that loves Italian food.
  9. Superior work ethic and organizational ability.
  10. Understanding of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures.
  11. High standards of cleanliness and safety.
  12. An infectious enthusiasm for the restaurant’s vision!

Certification from a culinary school or serve safe is a plus.

Location: 544 N Main St. Spearfish, SD 57783

Hours: Full and part time mornings and/or evenings, Wednesdays to Sundays.

Compensation: $12-16 an hour (skill dependent).
