Scope of the Role

The Fulfillment Center Lead is responsible for overseeing daily operations in designated areas within the fulfillment center. This role is crucial in managing workflows, meeting productivity targets, maintaining overall product storage, and ensuring safety compliance. The lead will collaborate with management to implement improvements, mentor team members, and maintain high-quality fulfillment standards.

Reporting Structure

The Fulfillment Center Lead is a member of the Fulfillment Center team and reports to the Fulfillment Center Supervisor/Manager. This position also partners with cross-functional team members across the organization.

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate daily fulfillment center activities to ensure timely and accurate processing of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Create and manage shipping and receiving documents, select appropriate carriers, and ensure all orders and deliveries are prepared and dispatched accurately.
  • Verify inventory accuracy by checking SKUs, quantities, and per diem dates using systems such as NetSuite and Warehouse Management System, closing out containers with correct quantities, and conducting regular pallet audits.
  • Ensure products are stored quickly, efficiently, and accurately, maximizing space utilization and monitoring capacity, while collecting and inputting product data into the WMS to maintain accuracy, reduce errors, and minimize overhead costs.
  • Actively monitor order volume and adjust operations as needed, using a direct putaway strategy to move products from receiving to final locations, minimizing staging, handling, and space requirements.
  • Perform quality control by reviewing and auditing documentation and physical processes, identifying and resolving root causes for inaccuracies.
  • Complete necessary paperwork, prepare reports as required, and maintain accurate records of fulfillment activities.
  • Prepare docks, establish efficient loading patterns, and coordinate container dock scheduling to minimize processing time.
  • Set daily and weekly assignments for team members, communicate goals (e.g.,container counts), and monitor progress by tracking start and completion times.
  • Coach team members through side-by-side training, provide constructive feedback, and support on-the-job learning to improve quality and productivity.
  • Implement and monitor safety standards, maintaining a clean, organized distribution center to prevent safety hazards, protect product integrity, and reduce risk of employee incidents.
  • Foster a collaborative environment by maintaining open communication with other leads and stakeholders to ensure operational consistency.
  • Reassign staff as necessary based on workload fluctuations, make recommendations to enhance operational flows, and motivate team members to meet performance targets.
  • Load, unload, and stack merchandise by hand or by using equipment, affix labels, apply shrink-wrap, and transport items as needed, ensuring accurate inventory tracking through scanner use.
  • Handle merchandise with care to maintain product integrity and organize items for shipment according to location or management instructions.
  • Perform approximately 70% hands-on duties and 30% clerical tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Required Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of recent experience in a similar leadership role in a fulfillment, manufacturing, production, or distribution setting.
  • At least 2 years of experience operating warehouse equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, manage multiple responsibilities, and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and train team members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and warehouse management software, such as NetSuite and Warehouse Management Systems.
  • Excellent attendance, reliability, and flexibility to meet business needs, including working during peak times as required.
  • Ability to stand on your feet frequently for long periods of time and walk the fulfillment center and around area (10-12 hour shifts may be needed per the business needs).
  • Ability to work in warehouse environment with variable noise levels, lighting conditions and temperature variation.
  • Ability to lift weights of up to 75 pounds on a continual basis.
