Job summary

The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District is seeking Fuels Mitigation Crew Members to support wildfire risk reduction through hands-on fieldwork, community education, and defensible space improvements. You will engage in outdoor work and contribute to prevention initiatives within Contra Costa County, serving communities like Danville, Alamo, and San Ramon.

Under the direction of the Wildfire Risk Mitigation Specialist or Logistics Battalion Chief, the Fuels Mitigation Crew Member performs a variety of non-emergency activities, including hazard mitigation, public education outreach, fire prevention assistance, and identifying and eliminating potentially hazardous conditions in wildland and urban interface settings. Work supports the District's fuels mitigation and exterior hazard abatement programs and includes vegetation, defensible space, fire hazard, and state-mandated inspections; chipping and fuels reduction projects; towing and hitching trailers; operating small power tools; and other duties as assigned.

The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District is an independent Special District in Contra Costa County responsible for providing a high level of emergency and non-emergency services to the communities it serves. The District's service area encompasses approximately 155 square miles, serving the communities of Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Diablo, San Ramon, the southern boundary of Morgan Territory, and the Tassajara Valley. The District serves a population of 194,607. The communities are primarily residential, commercial, office park, and controlled manufacturing, along with wildland areas, protected by nine stations and one volunteer staffed station with 185 employees, and 56 volunteers. Financial oversight and strategic policy direction are provided by an elected 5-member Board of Directors.

Education

License

Possession of and ability to maintain a current valid California Driver's License, Class C, is a condition of employment.

Highly Desirable Experience

Fuels management experience; experience in fire prevention, defensible space inspection, vegetation management, or related field work.
