Responsibilities

  • Perform safe operations and follow all safety rules and procedures.
  • Operate mobile equipment (scrapers, endloaders, wheel dozers, track dozer).
  • Remove ash from silos, bunkers, and storage areas.
  • Conduct minor and preventative maintenance on fuel-handling gear and tracks.
  • Perform minor building maintenance and manage silo levels.
  • Collect coal samples for testing and analysis.
  • Clean railroad trackage, conveyors, buildings and structures.
  • Lubricate and inspect conveyors and fuel-handling systems.
  • Support fire-protection systems operation and maintenance.
  • Assist unloading of fuel oil as needed.
  • Initiate work requests when required.
  • Operate overhead cranes during outages when instructed.
  • Maintain plant grounds and perform housekeeping duties.
  • Operate various coal handling vehicles and locomotives.
  • Isolate equipment for maintenance and conduct rounds of conveyors.
  • Lead, train, and instruct other employees.

Job Description

Under general supervision, performs and is responsible for all fuel-handling duties. This includes all operation, servicing, inspecting, lubricating, cleaning and minor maintenance of all coal equipment. Shift work may be required.

Under general supervision, performs and is responsible for all fuel-handling duties. This includes all operation, servicing, inspecting, lubricating, cleaning and minor maintenance of all coal equipment. Shift work may be required.

Responsibilities
  1. Performs all work in a safe manner. Complies with all safety rules, regulations and procedures. Performs all work that they are qualified and trained to do in a manner to protect themselves, their fellow employees and the public from injury.
  2. Operates all types of mobile equipment (scrapers, endloaders, wheel dozer, and track dozer).
  3. Operates equipment in removal of ash from silos, bunkers, storage ponds, etc.
  4. Performs minor and preventative maintenance on fuel handling equipment including railroad track.
  5. Performs minor building maintenance.
  6. Responsible for filling and maintaining levels in silos or coal bunkers.
  7. Collects and prepares coal samples for testing.
  8. Cleans railroad trackage and related equipment along with the coal conveyor systems, buildings, and structures.
  9. Lubricates and inspects conveyors.
  10. Operates and maintains fire protection systems.
  11. May assist in the unloading of fuel oil from bulk delivery vehicles.
  12. May initiate work requests.
  13. May operate overhead cranes during outages.
  14. Maintains plant grounds and yards including removal of debris, grades and repairs plant roads, mows grass and weeds, controls weeds with spraying equipment, and removes snow.
  15. Performs laboring duties such as digging ditches, shoveling of coal from around conveyors systems, hauling debris, transporting materials, and general housekeeping assignments.
  16. Operates vehicles such as, but not limited to, pickups, dump truck, vans, vacuum truck, front-end loaders, track-mobile, tanker trucks, and other coal handling mobile equipment including locomotives.
  17. Isolates equipment for maintenance activities.
  18. Make rounds of all the coal conveyor systems.
  19. Leads, trains and instructs other employees in their work.
Qualifications
  • - Previous experience handling coal or related materials and equipment is preferred.
  • - Three or more years of experience in a power plant or related industry is preferred.
  • - Experience in the use of end-loaders, wheel dozers, dump trucks, tanker trucks, and related equipment preferred.
  • - Experience working on and with tracked dozers and vacuum trucks desired.
  • - Must be physically able to walk steep coal conveyors, stairs, and work on grade for extended periods, as well as ability to climb ladders in awkward positions.
  • - Previous maintenance experience preferred.
  • - Must successfully complete the written testing process prior to being considered for interviews. (Not all candidates will be selected for testing.)
  • - Pre-employment background check, physical and drug screen is required.
  • - High school diploma or equivalency required.
