Summary:

The Fuel Driver is responsible for operating a commercial tanker truck to deliver fuel to various locations while adhering to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This is a crucial role that requires a high level of professionalism, attention to safety, and a commitment to efficient delivery.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a commercial tanker truck to transport fuel (gasoline, diesel, etc.) to designated locations.
  • Adhere to compliance with all DOT regulations, including hours of service, vehicle inspections and hazardous materials handling.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections on the truck and ensure all safety equipment is in place and operational.
  • Secure and load/unload hazardous materials, ensuring proper handling and safety protocols are followed.
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, fuel quantities, and compliance paperwork, including logs of hazardous materials transportation.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures related to fuel transportation, including safety and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor truck performance and report any maintenance or mechanical issues to ensure vehicle reliability.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is properly grounded during the fuel loading/unloading process to prevent static discharge.
  • Handle emergency situations, including spills or accidents, by following emergency response protocols.
  • Support and facilitate organizational changes, continuous improvement and communication.

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in a Fuel Driver role, preferably in the transportation industry; OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
  • Proficiency with dispatching software and GPS systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, crawl, balance, twist, and reach.
  • Ability to push, lift and pull up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to move and position self to operate under, near and around components, uprights & glides, etc.
  • Must be able to work adequately around outdoor weather conditions, fumes, toxic chemicals, vibration, and pressurized equipment.
  • Must be able to use vision, read, write, and hear.
  • Position requires grasping and utilizing manual dexterity including hand/finger coordination and the utilization of color vision. Use both feet and hands.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Must have the ability to drive 11 hrs. and work 12 to 14 hrs.
  • Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical exam, including vision, hearing, and physical fitness tests.
  • Good vision (with or without corrective lenses) to read gauges, meters, and road signs.
  • Adequate hearing to communicate and respond to safety alerts or traffic noises.
  • Endurance to perform physical tasks over long shifts, which may include repetitive movements, climbing, and standing.
