Job Summary and Objectives :

Conexon is a rapidly growing company working with Rural Electric Cooperatives to build advanced fiber to the home (FTTH) networks nationwide. We are currently looking for an FTTH Design Engineer to join the Conexon Field Services team.

We seek qualified candidates to design fiber builds across multiple regional areas. Candidates should have experience with FTTX, FTTH, FTTP, Fiber, telecommunications, or broadband projects, and a strong understanding of fiber design and distributive tap technology. The FTTH Design Engineer must be organized, possess good written and verbal communication skills, and be capable of communicating effectively with clients, cooperative members, and co-workers. Travel between projects is an essential requirement of this position.

Responsibilities and Duties :

  • Design all necessary requirements for Conexon Fiber Design for off-system builds.
  • Utilize engineering software for fiber design and field verification.
  • Conduct field verification of pre-designs, including fiber routes, tap and splice placement, address correction, and make-ready issues.
  • Manage scheduling with timeline production and tracking.
  • Control costs for the client and Conexon.
  • Verify production and reconcile invoices.
  • Provide weekly status reports.

Job Qualifications :

  • Understanding of NESC communications standards and clearances is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with engineering platforms; Katapult knowledge is preferred.
  • Knowledge of utility attachments, ROW permitting, construction, and quality control.
  • Strong mapping / GIS skills (Google Earth, ESRI, Partner, etc.) and electric distribution system mapping are a plus.
  • Understanding of FTTH plant design, with distributed tap experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work remotely using a mobile office setup (laptop, iPad, smartphone).
  • Comfortable traveling long distances by vehicle.
  • Experience with field measuring tools (height sticks, range finders, wheels, etc.).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with leadership abilities.
  • Ability to read and navigate electronic maps and GPS.
  • Knowledge of RUS electric assembly units is a plus but not required.
  • Basic understanding of funding and grant awards is a plus but not required.
  • Self-motivated and responsible, capable of working independently in a remote environment.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

This does not mean that the FTTH Design Engineer must perform all tasks but will be responsible for these areas.
