Job summary

Pella Regional Health Center in Iowa offers an RN New Graduate Residency designed to train new nurses across Medical Surgical, Post-Partum, and Emergency Department units. The program provides a six-month residency with structured orientation and access to a Nurse Residency track to support transition from student to professional nurse.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited RN program; BSN preferred.
• Current IA RN license in good standing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• CPR and child/adult abuse training as required.

Responsibilities

• Rotate across Medical-Surgical, Post-Partum and Emergency Department.
• Surgery and Hospice may be available as time permits.
• Participate in Nurse Residency program to support transition.
• Potential floating to areas to fill staffing vacancies as needed.

Job Summary

Pella Regional Health Center’s RN New Graduate Residency is a unique employment opportunity for RN's who are looking to train in several specialty nursing positions within PRHC. He/she will have the opportunity to orient to our Medical Surgical Unit, Post-Partum and the Emergency Department. The Surgery department and Hospice will also be potential opportunities as time permits. The shifts will be balanced between night and day shifts and last for about 6 months. As new graduates, candidates will be supported in a supplemental Nurse Residency program as well.

After the six month time frame, the candidate may choose to apply for an open position in a specialty area such as Labor and Delivery, Med Surg/ ICU or the Emergency department. The candidate may also continue to float to areas as needed to fill in with current staffing vacancies or leave of absences in the areas where he/she has been trained. The RN New graduate can continue throughout the first year, i.e. if the employee is interested in ICU, Labor & Delivery & Emergency nursing with the understanding that a commitment to those departments for a minimum of a year after completion of the specialty course work is desired.

Job Specific Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited RN program; BSN preferred.
• Current Registration and Licensure in the State of Iowa as an RN. Must be in good standing with the Board of Nursing.
• Continuing education as required to maintain licensure.
• Completion of Basic Life Support and Dependent Adult & Child Abuse.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• High degree of empathetic listening skills, tact and kindness toward others.
• Ability to communicate well verbally. Must work effectively as a member of a team.
• Basic computer knowledge
• Technical and critical thinking skills in relation to sound nursing judgment.
• Knowledge of nursing practices as they relate to acute care.
