Job summary

Ogden City Economic Development Division seeks a Maintenance Technician I for the Operations Storm Sewer Utility. This role performs semi-skilled maintenance for street, sewer and storm systems under supervision.

Responsibilities include operating equipment, preventive maintenance, traffic control, emergency recalls, safety compliance, and assisting in storm sewer repairs while delivering courteous public service. Strong candidates have at least one year of maintenance experience.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Any combination of experience and education that provides required knowledge.

  • Maintain hand tools and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Install street barricades and cones before sewer and storm work.
  • Direct and control traffic around work sites.
  • Be available for recall during emergencies, snow/ice control, or other incidents.
  • Inspect and clear obstructions from storm drains and sewer lines.
  • Respond to public inquiries courteously and provide information.
  • Resolve complaints efficiently and timely.
  • Perform snow removal and ice control duties as required.
  • Respond to and resolve complex citizen inquiries and complaints.
  • Stand-by duty for one week and respond to calls 24 hours during that period.
  • Participate in safety and risk management activities.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential; work with co-workers and communicate with the public.

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I - OPERATIONS STORM SEWER UTILITY

Department: Public Services

Division: Operations Storm Sewer Utility

Pay Grade: GRADE 120: $45,756.87 - $66,347.47 Annual Salary ($22.00 - $31.90 Hourly Rate)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, 40 hours weekly, Position eligible for benefits.

GENERAL PURPOSE

This position assists in performing semi-skilled and unskilled labor in construction, maintenance, and service activities related to street, sewer/storm, traffic, and utility maintenance. Receives direct supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor or Crew Leader.

Essential Job Functions
  • Operate construction and maintenance equipment and power tools such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, vactors, flush trucks, compressors, jackhammers, paint sprayers, sand blasters, concrete saws, sewer rodders, mowers, edgers, blowers, or any other equipment needed in sewer and stormwater maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain hand tools and assigned equipment; perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Install street barricades and cones before the performance of sewer and storm water
  • Direct and control traffic around work sites.
  • Be available for recall during any hour for storm sewer emergencies, snow/ice control work, or other emergencies.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
  • Inspect and clear obstructions from storm drains, sewer lines, gutters, and culverts; assist in the repair of sewer mains, manholes, and tap sewer mains.
  • Respond to public inquiries courteously and provide information within the area of assignment.
  • Resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Perform snow removal and ice control duties as required.
  • Respond to and resolve complex and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
  • Willing to accept duty as the Division's stand-by person for one week and respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day during this period.
  • Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employees are required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employees are required to communicate in person with the public during office hours and after when on call; and employees are required to use on-site equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
Education And Experience Requirements
  • At least one year of general maintenance experience performing field maintenance work.
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may qualify.
Special Requirements
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid, Class A Utah CDL driver's license with tanker endorsement within 150 days of hire.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a wastewater 1 certification within one year (if hired in the Sewer Division).
  • Employees will be required to complete NIMS IS100, IS200, IS700 and IS800 within one year of hire.

Failure to obtain/maintain the license and certificate as outlined above will result in termination from the position.
