DEPARTMENT: THE WAY OUT CENTER

POSITION TITLE: LEAD PROGRAM ATTENDANT

STATUS: FULL TIME, NON-EXEMPT

SUPERVISOR: THE WAY OUT PROGRAM MANAGER

MISSION STATEMENT

SCOPE OF POSITION

The Lead Program Attendant supervises Program Attendants on their shift and ensures safe, orderly operations of The Way Out Center. This position follows policies and procedures under the direction of the Assistant Program Manager and/or Program Manager. The Lead provides support, direction, and supervision for guests, working with individuals facing homelessness, mental health, addiction, or chronic illness issues. The role involves demonstrating hope, trust, and a positive outlook, and connecting with community services. The position may involve contact with environments that pose risks such as hostile behavior, weather, diseases, or animals.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of social services, local resources, and referrals
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office and recordkeeping systems
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Personal and situational awareness
  • Flexibility, reliability, and time management
  • Self-motivation with minimal supervision
  • Active listening skills
  • Ability to maintain boundaries and build trust
  • Over 21 years old with a valid WA State Driver License
  • Pass criminal and driver background checks
  • De-escalation training (or willingness to obtain)
  • Peer Support Certification preferred or within 90 days of hire
  • Proficiency with CMIS/HMIS software preferred
  • Certifications: Food Handler's Card, Bloodborne Pathogen, CPR/First Aid (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Represent The Salvation Army respecting its Christian tenets
  • Supervise staff and guests
  • Manage meal service, setup, and cleanup
  • Maintain logs and documentation
  • Respond to emergencies by contacting supervisors
  • Participate in meetings and training
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment
  • Maintain security and facility safety
  • Manage supplies and equipment
  • Handle communication tasks such as calls and front desk management
  • Assist with outreach, applications, and community engagement
  • Build professional relationships with community partners
  • Complete applicant intake and placement processes
  • Participate in employee development programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach
  • Operate phones and computers
  • Lift up to 30 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally
  • Perform janitorial tasks as needed
