This role performs diagnostic radiographic procedures within the clinic setting and will be required to assist with patient immobilization during radiographic procedures as needed; will give input on purchasing decisions, departmental policies and quality improvement; will be involved in the practice of radiation and general safety at all times. This role will also perform basic laboratory functions including specimen processing, customer service, and data entry procedures in support of the hospital's mission of patient care. Collect, process, store and transport blood, body fluids and tissue specimens. Perform clerical functions such as faxing, copying and mailing of reports and answering the phones professionally.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND / OR LICENSURE:

• Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
• Radiographer license as required by the state in which services will be provided.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Produces images of optimal quality by using imaging equipment and systems in the provision of image delivery and archiving.
• Maintains an expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care / safety.
• Makes CD’s for patient exams.
• Operates phone system, Radiology Information System and PACS system as needed.
• Modifies and delivers care that is specific to the age and growth development of the patient.
• Prepares room, equipment, materials as needed for patient exams, including sterile technique; cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment following each patient/exam, using current infection control protocols.
• Performs examinations per physicians’ orders and explains procedure to the patients. Relays patient history and clinical data to the radiologist.
• Observes, reports, and documents any unusual occurrences or changes in equipment and/or patients’ condition; provides information and documentation to assist in all quality improvement activities; assesses equipment function and inventory.
• Documents variances such as repeat film rates and other such occurrences; practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patients, visitors, and staff at all times.
• Maintains and stocks supplies, performs general office duties; properly labels film and follows prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
• Prepare specimens in order to perform basic diagnostic procedures designed to contribute to accurate reproducible patient results.
• Operate laboratory equipment/instrumentation for basic testing and specimen processing consistent with standard operating procedures.
• Prepare reagents and solutions required to complete specimen processing and testing according to the standard operating procedures.
• Perform quality control procedures under direct supervision to ascertain the reliability of reagents and laboratory equipment/instrumentation.
• Perform routine maintenance and quality control of laboratory equipment/instrumentation.
• Report test results with limited errors and in a timely manner.
• Communicate any unusual supply usage or critical supply levels to the Supervisor/Manager.
• Communicate any unusual medical/technical problems or unusual patient results.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Capability of lifting/moving patients and equipment when needed.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• Exposure to minimal radiation within the national standards of occupational guidelines. Monitored by Radiation Safety and use of dosimeter.
• Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
• Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts.

Skills And Abilities

• Demonstrates competency as appropriate in patient care assessment for each patient population area served: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric.
• Knowledge of growth and development.
• Understands the patient’s needs and scope of treatment.
• Understands the dynamics for each patient incorporating biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical, and discharge planning needs.
• Knowledge of the total care of patients, whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on the control of pain and other symptoms.
