Harrisburg University seeks a full-time, in-person faculty member in Engineering & Math Sciences to guide the growth of our program and support student wellbeing and career readiness. The ideal candidate will lead hands-on, electronics-focused courses and collaborate with Career Services and industry partners.

The role requires on-site work in Harrisburg, with a strong emphasis on inclusive teaching, student mentoring, and data-informed curriculum development to empower students for diverse STEM

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Engineering (Electrical or related field preferred).
  • Experience teaching undergraduate engineering/STEM to diverse prep levels.
  • Curriculum development, lab/project-based learning, internships/co-ops experience.
  • Commitment to inclusion and access in STEM; support for first-gen, women, students of color, adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate engineering sciences and/or applied math using inclusive, active-learning approaches.
  • Provide academic support for Engineering & Math Sciences, including scheduling and advising coordination.
  • Develop and deliver hands-on engineering electives (analog/digital circuits, microcontrollers, Arduino).
  • Embed career readiness and workforce development into the curriculum with industry partnerships.
  • Advise and mentor students to navigate non-linear pathways and translate experiences into internships/entry-level roles.
  • Use data (retention, DFW rates, student feedback) to inform course improvements.

Harrisburg University is searching for a full-time, in-person faculty member in Engineering & Math Sciences. Our ideal candidate is a student-centered STEM educator who will help guide the growth of our Engineering Sciences program, and who puts a strong emphasis on student wellbeing, career readiness, and workforce development. Our students are motivated, often come with uneven math preparation and non-linear paths, and need a leader who believes in their potential and meets them where they are without lowering expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate engineering sciences and/or applied math courses using inclusive, active-learning approaches that support students with varied preparation.
  • Provide academic support for students in Engineering and Math Sciences, including scheduling, curriculum planning, and coordination with advising and student support.
  • Develop and deliver new hands-on engineering electives, with a strong preference for:
    • Analog and digital circuits
    • Microcontrollers and Arduino-based applications
    • Lab-rich, project-based courses that connect theory to practical electronic design
  • Embed career readiness and workforce development into the curriculum through projects, professional skills, and collaboration with Career Services and industry partners.
  • Advise and mentor students, helping them navigate non-linear pathways, build confidence in math and engineering, and translate experiences into transferable skills for internships and entry-level roles.
  • Use data (retention, DFW rates, student feedback) to inform continuous improvement of courses, pathways, and supports.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Engineering (strong preference for Electrical or Electronic Engineering or closely related field).
  • Experience teaching undergraduate engineering/ STEM students, ideally in settings with diverse and mixed academic preparation.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following:
    • Curriculum and course development
    • Lab and project-based learning with real hardware/tools
    • Internships, co-ops, capstones, or other workforce-aligned experiences
  • Commitment to inclusion, and access in STEM; experience supporting first-generation, women, students of color, and adult learners is highly valued.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaborative skills; ability to work closely with faculty, staff, and student support offices.

Preferred/Additional Strengths (Not Required)

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Engineering
  • Experience in graduate program development and implementation.
  • Background or experience in data science, data analytics, or computational methods, with interest in supporting students who pursue data-focused pathways.
  • Project management experience or training, especially as applied to engineering projects, curriculum initiatives, or industry partnerships.

The ideal candidate is excited to build a hands-on, electronics-focused pathway within General Engineering Sciences, advocate for our students, and help them develop the skills and confidence to thrive in engineering, data-informed, and other technical careers. The position is intended to be fully on-site in Harrisburg. Salary commensurate with experience and credentials.
