Job summary

Halifax Community College seeks an Instructor to deliver instruction and support student success across curriculum courses. The role includes developing syllabi, outlines, lesson plans, selecting instructional materials, delivering lectures, labs, hands-on exercises, and assessing progress.

Under the supervision of the Program Chair, you will participate in professional development and campus activities, with a focus on continuous improvement of instruction and student outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction and support student success by developing course syllabi, outlines, and lesson plans for curriculum courses assigned.
• Review and select appropriate textbooks and instructional materials and media for the classes to be taught.
• Develop lectures, classroom activities, laboratories, hands-on exercises, and/or actual work site exercises for students to participate and learn.
• Monitor and record student progress in courses; administer tests or other evaluation methods and provide feedback on exercises, homework assignments, and tests.
• Keep records of student attendance; serve as advisor to assigned students.
• Under the supervision of the Program Chair, plan and implement educational activities to ensure student learning outcomes align with program outcomes and College mission.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and campus activities and fulfill committee and quality enhancement responsibilities.
• Ensure continuous improvement of instruction.
