Wellstar Cobb Women's Center is seeking a full-time Registered Sonographer. The position's hours are Monday - Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Flexibility with work hours is required to meet department needs. The ideal candidate must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative, providing safe, age-appropriate care by performing exams according to department protocols. The role involves performing a variety of technical procedures with independent judgment, setting up equipment, and positioning patients for imaging procedures.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Patient Care
- Verify proper clinician order for procedures.
- Obtain complete clinical history, gather examination data, and assess contraindications.
- Ensure proper patient identification and correct marker usage.
- Review images for quality and release patients.
- Respond to emergencies and maintain life support equipment.
- Assist other technologists as needed.
- Observe patient condition and evaluate situations requiring physician intervention.
- Verify patient identity using two identifiers prior to procedures.
- Maintain patient privacy, comfort, and dignity.
- Apply age-appropriate procedures, equipment, and techniques.
- Organize schedule and priorities efficiently.
- Follow physician instructions and use critical thinking skills.
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, explaining procedures and addressing questions.
- Perform pre- and post-procedural care and sterile techniques.
Education and Communication
- Explain procedures clearly to minimize patient anxiety using AIDET principles.
- Address patient questions and concerns, notifying physicians if needed.
- Participate in departmental training and provide patient instructions.
- Document accurately and legibly.
- Review daily schedule and complete mandatory education.
Quality Control
- Produce acceptable images, ensure equipment calibration, and send studies to PACS promptly.
- Maintain quality control logs and infection control policies.
Operations
- Restock supplies, transport and position patients, and perform charging activities.
- Apply supportive devices, assist colleagues, and perform clerical duties as needed.
- Keep supervisor informed, maintain productivity, and operate all workstations.
- Maintain standards and take call when necessary.
Equipment
- Adjust techniques to minimize radiation dose while maintaining image quality.
- Report equipment issues and perform cleaning and maintenance.
Minimum Education and Certification
- Graduate of an accredited Sonography Program.
- Registered Medical Sonographer or ARRT Sonography certification required upon hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA required.
Experience and Skills
- Minimum 1 year of clinical experience preferred.
- Excellent communication, independent functioning, and ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and interact professionally with diverse contacts.
- Flexibility with work hours, dependable, and cooperative.
- Knowledge of anatomy, pathology, and ultrasound procedures.
