Primary Purpose
Support the management and duties of store operations to meet financial and sales goals. Build associate and customer relations and promote a strong culture in support of Food Lion Strategy. Maintain solid communications with the management team, all associates in the store, and throughout the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the Grocery Department, including hiring, training, and developing department associates.
- Supervise the performance of all duties and responsibilities of department associates and provide ongoing performance management, training, and conduct timely formal performance appraisals for direct reports.
- Manage labor expectations daily and coach associates to achieve productivity goals.
- Provide leadership and motivation within the store to promote a culture reflective of our Guiding Principles, Core Values, Vision, and Strategy.
- Support the achievement of budgeted financial and operating results.
- Create a positive shopping environment with enthusiastic customer service, focusing on fast, easy, flexible, and friendly service.
- Model outstanding customer service, using product knowledge to meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Control store expenses through proper ordering, and care for supplies and equipment.
- Utilize company tools such as financial reports, ACIS, scheduling, productivity, CAO, and business information systems.
- Maintain department appearance, quality, variety, safety, food safety, and sanitation standards.
- Ensure Grocery Department schedules provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Understand and manage scheduling, sales, projections, wages, interviewing, hiring, and training.
- Ensure ordering, receiving, preparation, and display of merchandise adhere to policies and guidelines.
- Monitor and correct unsafe conditions to prevent accidents.
- Record and report all accidents following Food Lion procedures.
- Monitor shrink and inventory, coaching staff to recognize and prevent losses.
- Assist with bi-annual physical inventory counts.
- Ensure proper use of advertising, sales promotion materials, and signage.
- Comply with all regulations and company policies.
- Maintain security standards.
- Complete required training courses.
- Recognize staff achievements and provide constructive feedback to improve customer satisfaction and sales.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Understanding of store operations preferred.
- Willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements.
- Problem-solving skills with technical information.
- Leadership ability to direct others.
- Meet minimum age requirements for the role.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the job, with or without accommodations.
- Certification as a Food Safety Manager by the National Registry or similar organization, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Physical Requirements
- Proficiency with computers and communication systems.
- Use of handheld computers for orders, scans, and inventory.
- Stand and walk frequently.
- Push or pull up to 2000 lbs. using equipment.
- Perform repetitive motions and lift weights as specified.
- Handle cleaning and packaging substances safely.
- Reach, grasp, and tolerate temperature extremes as specified.
- Sufficient vision to check documents.
