Primary Purpose

Support the management and duties of store operations to meet financial and sales goals. Build associate and customer relations and promote a strong culture in support of Food Lion Strategy. Maintain solid communications with the management team, all associates in the store, and throughout the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the Grocery Department, including hiring, training, and developing department associates.
  • Supervise the performance of all duties and responsibilities of department associates and provide ongoing performance management, training, and conduct timely formal performance appraisals for direct reports.
  • Manage labor daily and coach associates to achieve productivity expectations.
  • Provide leadership and motivation within the store to promote a culture reflecting our Guiding Principles, Core Values, Vision, and Strategy.
  • Support the achievement of budgeted financial and operating results.
  • Create a positive shopping environment emphasizing fast, easy, flexible, and friendly customer service.
  • Model outstanding customer service and use product knowledge to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Control store expenses through proper ordering, supplies, and equipment care.
  • Utilize company tools such as financial reports, inventory systems, scheduling, and business information systems.
  • Maintain department appearance, quality, safety, sanitation, and food safety standards.
  • Ensure Grocery Department schedules provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Understand and manage scheduling, sales, projections, hiring, training, and other management tasks.
  • Ensure proper handling of merchandise in accordance with policies.
  • Address unsafe conditions and record/report accidents per procedures.
  • Monitor inventory and shrink, coaching staff to recognize and prevent losses.
  • Assist with bi-annual physical inventories.
  • Ensure proper use of advertising and sales promotion materials.
  • Comply with all regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain security standards.
  • Complete required training courses.
  • Recognize accomplishments and provide constructive feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Understanding of store operations preferred.
  • Willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical skills.
  • Problem-solving skills with technical information.
  • Leadership ability.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements with or without accommodations.
  • Certification as Food Safety Manager or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to use computers and communication systems.
  • Stand and walk frequently.
  • Push/pull up to 2000 lbs. with equipment.
  • Perform repetitive motions.
  • Lift up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 100 lbs. on occasion.
  • Handle cleaning and packaging substances.
  • Reach and grasp at various heights.
  • Work in extreme temperatures for periods.
  • Visual ability to check documents.
