Job summary

Levittown Public Schools is seeking a Bus Dispatcher for the Transportation Office. This twelve month position requires coordinating vehicles and drivers to follow bus schedules and to plan routes for field trips and events.

The role involves maintaining transportation records, ensuring safety and compliance, and operating a school bus when needed. A valid Class B CDL with P & S endorsement and NYS requirements are required, with two years of dispatch or driving experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Two years of satisfactory bus driving and/or motor vehicle dispatching experience.
• Satisfy all requirements of Article 19-A of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Responsibilities

• Assign vehicles and drivers to properly follow bus schedules
• Plan, schedule, and allocate drivers for special transportation such as field trips, athletic events, etc.
• Assist in planning bus loads, stops, routes, and schedules
• Operate a school bus, as required
• Maintain all record keeping related to the operation of transportation

STAFF OPENING

TRANSPORTATION OFFICE

BUS DISPATCHER Hours: 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Twelve Month Position* *Summer hours may vary

Typical essential duties, but not limited to:

1. Assign vehicles and drivers to properly follow bus schedules
2. Plan, schedule, and allocate drivers for special transportation such as field trips, athletic events, etc.
3. Assist in planning bus loads, stops, routes, and schedules
4. Operate a school bus, as required
5. Maintain all record keeping related to the operation of transportation

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

1. Knowledge of school district area, location of all schools within the school district, and those schools located outside of the district for which transportation is provided
2. Considerable knowledge of all routes and bus stops
3. Knowledge of locations to which field trips are provided
4. Knowledge of all rules, regulations, and policies relative to transportation
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel and public
6. Computer literacy preferred

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of satisfactory bus driving and/or motor vehicle dispatching experience

Necessary Requirements:

Valid Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with P & S endorsement and

Candidates must satisfy all requirements of Article 19-A of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. In addition, candidates must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education.
