Job summary

Levittown Public Schools is seeking a Bus Dispatcher for a twelve-month full-time position with hours from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The role involves assigning vehicles and drivers to follow bus schedules, planning field trips and special transportation, and maintaining comprehensive transportation records.

Minimum qualifications include two years of satisfactory bus driving or dispatching experience and a valid Class “B” CDL with P & S endorsement. NYS rules for school bus drivers apply.

Qualifications

• Two years of satisfactory bus driving and/or motor vehicle dispatching experience.
• Valid Class B CDL with P & S endorsement.
• Candidates must satisfy all requirements of Article 19-A of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law and School Bus Driver requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assign vehicles and drivers to follow bus schedules.
• Plan and allocate drivers for field trips, events, and transportation needs.
• Assist in planning bus loads, stops, routes, and schedules.
• Operate a school bus as required.
• Maintain all records related to transportation operation.

Job description

BUS DISPATCHER

Twelve Month Position*

Hours: 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Typical essential duties, but not limited to

1. Assign vehicles and drivers to properly follow bus schedules


2. Plan, schedule, and allocate drivers for special transportation such as field trips, athletic events, etc.


3. Assist in planning bus loads, stops, routes, and schedules


4. Operate a school bus, as required


5. Maintain all record keeping related to the operation of transportation

Required knowledge, skills and abilities

1. Knowledge of school district area, location of all schools within the school district, and those schools located outside of the district for which transportation is provided


2. Considerable knowledge of all routes and bus stops


3. Knowledge of locations to which field trips are provided


4. Knowledge of all rules, regulations, and policies relative to transportation


5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with personnel and public


6. Computer literacy preferred

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of satisfactory bus driving and/or motor vehicle dispatching experience

Necessary Requirements

Valid Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with P & S endorsement

and

Candidates must satisfy all requirements of Article 19-A of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. In addition, candidates must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education.
