Job description

Summary

As an important member of La Colombe's Flagship Cafe in Fishtown, the Baker contributes to the culinary experience of our guests by producing delicious and beautiful baguettes, sourdoughs, challah, ciabatta, and more. Applicants must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The position requires early morning hours (3:30 AM), weekends, and holidays. The ideal candidate will be a capable shaper/baker who can contribute immediately, without extensive training. Compensation will be based on experience.

Responsibilities

1. Opening and preparing workstations for the daily bake
2. Portioning and hand-shaping a variety of rustic loaves
3. Baking baguettes, sourdoughs, and more in a deck oven
4. Neatly arranging bread displays for retail
5. Balancing shaping and baking duties effectively
6. Using commercial equipment properly, including mixers, ovens, and knives
7. Inspecting food preparation and serving areas to ensure safety and sanitation
8. Performing quality control
9. Adhering to timing standards and schedules for all products and services
10. Maintaining clean and sanitary stations (shaping room, ovens, walk-in cooler, etc.)
11. Cleaning and maintaining equipment properly
12. Completing other bakery tasks as assigned

Requirements

1. At least 2 years of shaping and baking experience in a high-volume artisan bakery
2. Ability to work positively in a fast-paced environment
3. Excellent verbal communication skills
