Job summary

La Colombe’s Flagship Café in Fishtown is seeking a skilled baker to join our morning bake team, producing baguettes, sourdough, challah, ciabatta and more. The role requires 3:30 AM start times, weekends and holidays, in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate can shaping/bake without extensive training and will contribute immediately. Compensation will be based on experience, with a reported range of $21.00 per hour and benefits as applicable.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years shaping and baking in a high-volume artisan bakery.
• Ability to work positively in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Open and prepare workstations for daily bake.
• Portion and hand-shape a variety of rustic loaves.
• Bake baguettes, sourdoughs, and more in a deck oven.
• Display bread neatly for retail.
• Balance shaping and baking duties.
• Use mixers, ovens, and knives properly.
• Ensure safe, sanitary food-handling practices.
• Quality control of products.
• Maintain timing standards and schedules.
• Keep stations clean and sanitary.
• Clean and maintain equipment.
• Perform other bakery tasks as assigned.

Summary

As an important member of La Colombe’s Flagship Café in Fishtown, the Baker contributes to the culinary experience of our guests by producing delicious and beautiful baguettes, sourdoughs, challah, ciabatta, and more. Applicants must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The position requires early morning hours (330 AM), weekends, and holidays. The ideal candidate will be a capable shaper/baker who can contribute strongly right away, without extensive training. Compensation will be based on experience.

Responsibilities

• Opening and preparing workstations for the daily bake


• Portioning and hand-shaping a variety of free-form rustic loaves


• Baking baguettes, sourdoughs, and more in a deck oven


• Neatly arranging bread displays for retail


• Successfully balancing shaping/baking duties


• Proper usage of commercial equipment including mixers, ovens, and knives


• Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices


• Quality Control


• Adhere to timing standards and schedules for all products and services


• Maintain clean, safe, and sanitary stations (shaping room, ovens, walk-in cooler, etc.)


• Properly clean and maintain equipment


• Complete other general bakery tasks as assigned

We offer up to 60 hours accrued PTO (which includes vacation and personal time off) and up to 60 hours accrued of FTO (which includes sick time).

Compensation Range: $21.00/hr.
