Job Description
This exciting opportunity allows you to work with a space company known for its remarkable achievement of over 400 successful missions. As a Senior FDIR-FSW Engineer, you will participate in various tasks and activities based on your knowledge and experience. You will be instrumental in defining and documenting fault detection actions at both system and subsystem levels, ensuring seamless interaction with satellite payloads, and developing strategies for failure detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR).
Responsibilities
Define the fault detection actions of the platform at system and subsystem levels.
Document how the platform will interface with the payload for satellite-level FDIR.
Collaborate with the operations team to define contingency scenarios involving FDIR.
Engage with customers to refine and ensure compatibility of FDIR strategies.
Work with the FSW team to determine the FDIR test plan on FlatSat and DSS.
Coordinate with various teams to determine spacecraft level FDIR testing requirements.
Review FMECAs and provide feedback on detection, isolation, and recovery of failure modes.
Contribute to Operations Procedures, Operations Manuals, and Satellite test procedures.
Provide inputs to satellite DB team for parameters and monitors.
Review payload, platform, and subsystem designs for compliance with FDIR requirements.
Ensure Operations Procedures align with the FDIR strategy.
Evaluate FDIR test artifacts and troubleshoot non-compliances.
Develop Verification & Validation Matrices for platform and payload FDIR requirements.
Support the payload team in defining payload FDIR and its impact on satellite-level FDIR.
Assist the operations team with In-Orbit Test (IOT), anomaly resolution, and FDIR.
Contribute to ICD development activities for both hardware and software/database.
Essential Skills
Flight Software, FDIR, Satellites, FMECAs, Fault Tree Analysis
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or relevant field
At least 10 years of practical experience, supplemented by higher degrees in Engineering
Previous experience with LEO/MEO satellite systems
Strong cross-functional team collaboration
Experience with analysis of satellite systems and subsystems
Familiarity and experience with FMECAs and Fault Tree Analysis
Understanding of failure propagation through systems
Ability to decompose system-level failures to unit level and vice versa
Knowledge of satellite FSW and monitor operations for FDIR
Expertise in testing hardware and software for FDIR
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience in Constellation FDIR
Creation of Fault Trees and FMECAs
Experience with reliability analysis
Working knowledge of PUS services
Experience mentoring junior engineers
FDIR experience on embedded systems
Payload FDIR expertise
Proficiency in MS Excel for engineering analyses
Knowledge of requirements management tools like DOORS, Windchill, Jama
Demonstrated capability to work independently
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; French is a plus
Work Environment
This is a fully remote opportunity with 25-30% travel. You will be part of a dynamic team that leverages advanced technologies to push boundaries in space exploration. The role offers flexibility and autonomy, allowing you to collaborate effectively across various teams and projects.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $100.00/hr.
