Job summary

United Surgical Partners International, Inc. seeks a PACU nurse in Fresno, CA to deliver direct postoperative care from patient admission until discharge. You will coordinate with surgeons and anesthesiologists, monitor recovery progress and adjust plans as needed.

Responsibilities include communicating patient status, managing pain, documenting care, and supporting performance improvement initiatives within the PACU. ACLS/BLS certified clinicians with RN licensure are preferred.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited registered nursing program.
• ACLS and BLS certifications.
• Two years of PACU/ICU/ER experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administers care according to current state and local laws covering the delivery of patient and standard of care.
• Develops an individualized plan of care based on nursing assessment and surgical procedure.
• Intercedes with team to meet patient needs and coordinates with the health care system.
• Contacts outpatients by telephone on their first postoperative day to assess status.
• Assess and manage pain using appropriate methods and document outcomes.
• Educates patient and family on pain management and discharge instructions.
• Documents and communicates all necessary information to staff.
• Identifies symptoms, changes and acts promptly.
• Interprets postoperative instructions to patient and family.
• Observes, monitors and records total patient care in PACU from admission to discharge.
• Reports changes to anesthesiologist and surgeon.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

This position is accountable for providing direct care to the patient immediately postoperatively until the patient is discharged from the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Participates in performance improvement activities. Communicates with surgeon and anesthesiologist continuously, and as needed, about patient conditions; receive direction for patient management. Intercedes to maintain optimum homeostasis.

Essential Functions

• Assures the needs of patients and families are recognized and addressed through coordination with other team members within the health care system and community.
• Contacts outpatients by telephone on their first postoperative day to assess the patient’s status and assist patient to obtain further medical attention or instructions should the condition warrant.
• Demonstrate ability to adequately assess and reassess pain.
• Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques.
• Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
• Documents and communicates all necessary information to the staff.
• Identifies physical symptoms, changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner.
• Interprets the physician's postoperative instructions and nursing rationale for postoperative care to the patient and family.
• Observes behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications, takes appropriate actions and documents.
• Observes, monitors and records procedures and information regarding the patients total care in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit from admission to discharge.
• Reports changes and abnormalities in patient’s condition to the anesthesiologist and the surgeon.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

Education & Work Experience

• Completion of an accredited registered nursing program.
• ACLS Certificate BLS Certificate
• Two years of work experience in Postanesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Emergency Room (ER) preferred

Required Licenses/Certifications

• Current California Registered Nursing License.

Salary

• $48.54-$60.68/hr.
