Job summary

Edison Academy within Kalamazoo Public Schools is hiring for a part-time Food Service staff member. The role runs 8:00-2:00 pm and pays $16.98 per hour. Responsibilities include daily kitchen operations and serving students, with emphasis on hygiene and safety as the school supports student meals.

The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, reliable attendance, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Prior food service experience is desirable.

Qualifications

• No misdemeanors within the past 5 years; no felony convictions.
• Previous food service, cashiering and cooking experience desirable.

Scope of Responsibilities

Food Service staff performing the daily kitchen operations, serving students, and kitchen clean up.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must provide proof of a High School Diploma or accredited equivalency. Documentation upon hiring is required.
• Must have an excellent attendance record, be reliable, friendly, courteous and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Displays exceptional personal hygiene practices.
• Able to follow verbal and written instructions. Able to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds. Display dexterity with hands.
• Able to follow written recipe instructions (applies to FS-2, FS-3 or F-4 only).
• Basic understanding of food safety/sanitation-Prior cooking experience preferred (applies to FS-2, FS-3, FS-4 only).
• Has no misdemeanors within the past 5 years or any felony convictions.
• Previous food service, cashiering and cooking experience is desirable.
• Experience using commercial kitchen equipment is desirable.
