Job summary

FlexSteel is seeking a Production SSE Operator in Baytown, TX to operate and support the production of flexible pipe. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and teamwork in a heavy manufacturing setting.

Under supervision, you will participate in on-the-job training, set up and operate equipment, and help maintain daily records and traceability. This position requires the ability to read and follow instructions and to perform basic maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Candidates must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Knowledge of mechanics, metal forming, and/or extrusion equipment preferred.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Responsibilities

• Operate and support production equipment to manufacture flexible pipe.
• Maintain safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
• Report to the Shift Team Lead and assist in setup and operation of equipment.
• Inspect work in progress and finished products for quality compliance.
• Complete required documentation and maintain traceability records.
• Learn and perform autonomous maintenance on weld machines and tooling.

This is a FlexSteel position and is located in Baytown, TX.

• The purpose of this position is to operate, or support the operation of, production equipment and perform processes related to manufacturing flexible pipe.
• Steel Strip Operators participate in a structured on-the-job training program to develop basic skills through the completion of competency modules and hands-on training.

• Reports directly to the Shift Team Lead and assists the Lead Operator in set up and operation of the assigned production equipment/machine.
• Under the guidance of the Lead Operator, Work Center Leader, and/or the Shift Team Lead the SSE Operator operates assigned equipment/machinery for the purpose of producing production, test, or experimental pipe.
• Inspects work in progress, as well as the overall finished product to ensure compliance with Company Quality standards.
• Maintains work center cleanliness, including material storage areas, in accordance with facility operating policies and Visual Work Instructions.
• Completes required documentation records, as required, in accordance with procedures.
• Able to use the ERP scanning system.
• Obtain certification to weld entire range of steel strip.
• Demonstrate proficiency in operating the rim drive take-up unit.
• Able to effectively assist in a steel strip change-out.
• Able to effectively assist in a steel strip tooling change.
• Able to load and prepare an IP reel / remove IP and conduct post run activities.
• Understand which strip thickness / width correlates to which pipe design.
• Able to perform autonomous maintenance items on the weld machines.
• Able to properly complete all traceability documentation (cage #2).
• Successfully complete 40-hour Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Training Course.
• Assists Lead Operator in analyzing and resolving line operations problems.
• When applicable, loads material into machine for production runs, including maintaining material traceability.
• Assists Work Center Leader, Lead Operator, and Shift Team Lead for the purpose of coordinating activities associated with the work center.
• Assists in all work areas in accordance with the Standard Work Instructions, Policies, and Procedures, as directed by the Shift Team Lead.
