Job Summary

The Fruit Preparation Operator is responsible for preparing and assembling all the raw materials required for recipes to be produced in the production facility. Fruit preparation activities include weighing, staging, and transforming - small ingredients, raw fruit, sugar, purees, etc. The Preparation Operator will also be responsible for inspection, proper inventory control, and raw material issuing during the preparation process.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Weigh ingredients according to the manufacturing sheets, the ERP and according to the production schedule and with high accuracy and precision
  • Issue proper ingredients and paperwork to ensure inventory is being tracked accurately for each batch.
  • Manually clean all equipment that is being used (between fruits, and end of week) – manual CIP.
  • Ability to use pumps, demolition machines, cutters, grinders, conveyors, and sugar dosing.
  • Weigh additives, with high accuracy, according to the indications of the manufacturing sheet and the ERP system.
  • Use the weighing scale, for small ingredients, with extreme accuracy (less than 0.5% overfill)
  • Organized storage of raw materials according to their nature and purpose (freezer, refrigerator, ambient)
  • Train newcomers for this and prior positions.
  • Uphold and promote food safety and quality standards by adhering to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, and actively supporting a culture of continual improvement and accountability.
  • Other duties, as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a food manufacturing role.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with all levels of management and maintenance.
  • Ability to start and complete the CIP process, understand the sequences of the CIP, and can supervise the CIP.
  • Understand how the cooking system works (program and sequences)
  • Respect for FIFO, traceability, and the production schedule.
  • Ability to perform specific cleaning related to the use of organic and allergenic raw materials.
  • Strong math, reading, writing and literacy required.
  • Must be able to understand and operate machinery in a safe and productive manner.
  • Ability to identify all machine and work center stop buttons, machine guards, hoods, doors and safety warnings, among other items, to ensure safety and efficient operation of the machinery.
  • Previous experience, aptitude and/or willingness for hands‑on mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Follows 5S principles in Production areas; embraces and practices continuous improvement program at Bowman Andros.
  • Food‑defense: prevention of intentional introduction of hazards into food.
  • Ability to distinguish between varying flavors / colors / consistency in ingredients and product with the senses, including sight, smell and taste.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment where priorities change frequently.
  • Detail‑oriented.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be performed by a teammate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the teammate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms; see, talk and/or hear. The teammate will be required to lift, climb, balance, bend, stoop, crawl and crouch. The teammate is required to stand for up to a 12-hour period (with breaks). The teammate is required to taste, touch and smell.

The teammate will regularly need to lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally push or pull up to 75 pounds.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that a teammate will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The Fruit Preparation Operator is required to work on the production floor. While performing the duties of this job, the teammate frequently will be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat and/or cold. The teammate continuously works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to pinch points and hot surfaces. The teammate will be exposed to loud noises from production equipment and thus will be required to wear PPE. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be high at times due to production and mechanical equipment noise.
