Job summary

Walnut Street Theatre seeks local non-union actors for External Understudies for FROZEN: THE BROADWAY MUSICAL. Rehearsals begin Oct 27, with performances Nov 17–Jan 3. Roles include Elsa/Kristoff/Sven/U/S, with extras and ensemble understudy positions.

On-call commitment through the run; attend dress and six required rehearsals. Understudies receive a $350 expense stipend and $70 per show when called, plus a scholarship to Walnut Street Theatre School.

Qualifications

• Non-union local actors for understudy roles.
• Must be in town for duration of run (Oct 27 – Jan 3).
• Comfortable with puppetry for Olaf/Sven and strong movement required.

Responsibilities

• Be On Call for a specific role during the run.
• Attend Final Dress Rehearsal on Nov 15 at 7PM.
• participate in six understudy rehearsals (dates listed) and may be called for shows at $70 each.

Walnut Street Theatre is currently seeking local non-union actors for External Understudies for ALL roles in DISNEY'S FROZEN: THE BROADWAY MUSICAL this holiday season. Glenn Casale is set as director and Robbie Roby is choreographer. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on October 27, 2026 with performances running from November 17, 2026 - January 3, 2027.

SEEKING:

Elsa U/S

Kristoff U/S

Sven U/S (should be a strong mover and comfortable operating a body puppet)

Weselton U/S (must be no taller than 5'9")

Olaf U/S (should be comfortable with puppetry)

Ensemble Dancer U/S - Strong technical musical theatre dancers to cover the chorus of Arendelle and colony of "hidden folk"

Ensemble Singer U/S - Fantastic contemporary musical theatre singer actors to cover featured Ensemble parts, such as Oaken, Queen Iduna, and Pabbie.

Artists who are unfamiliar with Non-Union Understudies from within the Walnut Street Theatre School’s education performance program, details are provided below.

UNDERSTUDIES:

• Are “On Call” for a specific role in the cast and must be in town for the duration of the run of FROZEN – October 27 - January 3.
• Learn/observe as much of the rehearsal process as you’d like on your own.
• Attend Final Dress Rehearsal– November 15th at 7PM
• 6 required understudy rehearsals during the show’s run –11/19, 11/20, 11/24, 11/25, 12/1, & 12/4 - usually 12:30-5:30PM
  • Receive an expense stipend of $350 to cover any expenses in participating (parking for a day, etc.)
  • Additional Rate: $70 per show if you are called on to perform as an understudy.
  • Scholarship for a free class at the Walnut Street Theatre School.
