Job summary

Penn State University’s University Libraries seeks a Common Services Supervisor to lead frontline staff at Pattee and Paterno Libraries. You will oversee service points, ensure high-quality customer service, and coordinate daily operations with a focus on training and policy compliance.

The role requires supervising multiple staff levels, developing onboarding programs, managing scheduling and payroll, and maintaining library systems.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising frontline staff and handling scheduling, payroll, and training.
• Proven ability to deliver high-quality customer service in a public-facing library setting.
• Strong verbal and written communication and active listening skills.
• Ability to collaborate across departments and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, train, and support staff across multiple library service points to ensure high-quality operations.
• Develop onboarding, training materials, and ongoing professional development in customer service and policy guidance.
• Manage hiring, scheduling, payroll, evaluations, and staff development while ensuring coverage.
• Facilitate staff meetings and foster a collaborative work environment.
• Provide reference and circulation support and guide use of library resources.
