Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers seeks a Firefighter/EMT to join the Emergency Services Branch at the Joint Training Center (JTC) Fort Pickett. The role requires EMS, firefighting, and incident command competencies to support the Virginia National Guard and associated defense forces.

Responsibilities include prevention, protection, education, and emergency response across multiple training areas. Required certifications include Firefighter II and EVOC with extensive safety and reporting duties; EMT

Qualifications

• Knowledge of firefighting, rescue and EMS operations, principles, practices, techniques and use of specialized equipment.
• Knowledge of Incident Command and strategies/tactics during emergency operations.
• Ability to work under pressure; identify and analyze needed data; make decisions; and maintain emotional self-control.
• Ability to be open-minded; communicate effectively with a wide variety of people; write clear reports.
• Possess knowledge of Fire & EMS department operations; familiarity with multiple agencies that can assist in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide firefighting, EMS and related emergency response services at the Joint Training Center. Protect lives, property and the environment during emergencies.
• Coordinate with local, state and federal agencies; apply incident command and ICS/NIMS protocols when responding to incidents.
• Maintain readiness through training and certification requirements and ensure compliant reporting and recordkeeping.
